Afternoon Tea

Today Amelia's bridal shower finally happened. Lisa and I had been working on this and planning this for weeks. All that hard work payed off because it turned out so good!
We wore our hats, we drank our tea, we ate our cucumber sandwiches and we embarrassed the bride-to-be. Perfect day! ;-)

Here are some of the highlights:

Tea time!

We had Amelia answer question about her fiance and if she got the question wrong, she had to put a piece of bubble gum in her mouth. Lets just say that she had a REALLY full mouth.

Then she opened some awesome presents.

Then...with all the wrapping paper we fashioned her a wedding dress.

SO MUCH FUN!

Oh my heavens I am so happy this day is finally here! This week has been something else and I am ready for the weekend.

I Confess:
  • After working all night I have very little patience for a nipping puppy.
  • It took me one week of severe sleep deprivation and being over worked to feel like sending the puppy back.
  • No really one morning when she was trying to gnaw my wrist off after I repeatedly told her not to, I was thinking of pitching her overboard.
  • I am so obviously not a patient person at the end of my work week after staying up all night.
  • And then she sat in front of me and looked at me with that cute freaken face and I thought, "its a dang good thing you are cute because you almost bought yourself a ticket back to Orangeville."
  • I am a firm believer that babies, all babies human and animal, are born cute out of shear survival.
  • Think about it. If babies or puppies weren't so cute and loveable do you think people would really being going out of their way to have one?
  • Nope they sure wouldn't.
  • As a matter of fact, with all the chaos and terror these little beings cause, they wouldn't survive their adolescence.
  • I'm just saying.
  • Any way, regardless of crazy puppy moments I still am glad we got her and don't regret it....My slippers do, but I don't.
  • I confess....I am actually posting this on Saturday.
  • I wrote it on Friday but have been so busy with the bridal shower I just hosted.
  • Which reminds me...I need to blog about the shower...
  • SO...Until next time.

Well, I didn't expect that

Today I discovered that the pup had an accident in her crate...well, It was either an accident or it was a whole lot of puppy drool. Either way, I decided that I would wash the towels we had put in there and the toys as well. I am a bit of a sanitizing freak so I washed everything in scalding hot water. After the wash was complete I opened the lid to my washer to discover a whole lot of fluff. No really the teddy bear Freyja loves to chew on had exploded...
In case you ever wanted to know what the inside of your washer will look like after a stuffed animal spews forth its innards....
The stuffed animal was a white ballerina bear...actually it was one of my favorite bears when I was younger. Freyja took a liking to it so I let her have it. I didn't want her to get lonely in her crate. ;-)
The culprit.
I honestly should have known better and expect this to happen, But really the only concern I had was for the bear turning blue from the navy towels. Apparently I was worrying about the wrong thing, because the only thing that turned blue was the stuffing.
I assumed if the puppy could chew and drag and toss around the stuff animal then it could go through the wash cycle without any issues.
Well, I learned my lesson.
But don't worry, I was able to save the bear. As a matter of fact, it looked good as new when I was done with it. With a little fishing line and a needle, I was able to put all the innards back where they belonged and return the bear to the puppy....so she could destroy it on her own...

Freyja

On Friday May 20, 2011 Jeff and I drove 3hrs to Orangeville, UT to pick up this cute bundle of joy. She is a pure bred German Shepherd and her name is Freyja. (Named after the Norse Goddess). She was so good on the way home. She slept pretty much the whole way.

We have had her 2 days now and let me tell you what, it has been an adventure. I expected all these surprises from a puppy but I didn't think of how tired I was going to be waking up every 2hrs to take her outside. Poor Jeff has been such a trooper and getting up to take her out before I could even lift my head from the pillow. He is such a good sport.
All I can say is this week is going to be interesting for everyone. I, stupidly, picked up an extra shift this week before we even decided on buying Freyja....needless to say, Jeff is going to have to be the one getting up with her every 2 hrs most nights and Freyja is going to be in the crate a lot during the day most days and I am going to be SUPER sleep deprived for work....Oh I also have to finish putting together a bridal shower for Saturday... Woopsie. I guess our timing wasn't the most ideal but we had been talking about getting a puppy for months and Jeff had his heart set on her so I suppose now was as good a time as any.

On Saturday we headed to the International Peace Gardens in SLC to the 17 Mai celebration. It is a big celebration for Norway's independence that goes on every year. Good Times. The whole family was there and we even took Freyja. Everyone loved her!

Derek and Amber having fun with the photo opp....I guess we know who wears the pants in this relationship. BAH! Amber, you probably shouldn't tell Derek I said that....;-)

Freyja was so hot in the sun that she would crawl under my Bunad (traditional Norwegian costume) and lay down between my legs. She is so sweet.
Well, we have all had an eventful few days. I am kind of looking forward to the regular routine. I think it will also be good for Freyja and helpful toward crate training her. We will see.

FrIdAy CoNfEsSiOnAl

This has been a horrifically long week. I blame it on the fact that I have worked extra this week.
I actually feel like all I have done this week is work and sleep...probably because that is really all I have done.
Needless to say, I now remember why I stopped picking up extra. It sucks! Unfortunately I really wanted to buy a little something something that was not in the budget so I sucked it up....and there you have it.
That being said, I am SO HAPPY ITS FRIDAY!!!!!! YAY!!!

I confess:
  • I am going to be a mother!
  • That's right...its a girl!
  • We are going to name her Freyja after the Norse goddess of love, beauty and...war.
  • We are going to be new parents to a GERMAN SHEPHERD PUPPY!
  • YAY!!!!!
  • I am so nervous!
  • Jeff is like, "it gonna be fine". I'm like...."I've never trained a puppy before!"
  • I am also really excited. I have wanted a puppy for a very long time.
  • I went around telling all my friends at work about my exciting news and I was a little disappointed at how negative everyone was.
  • Everyone kept telling me how she is going to chew up my entire house... brick and mortar included and how I can just kiss all my new landscaping good bye....etc. Everyone of them told me, "you don't want a puppy" then gave me a disgusted face when I said she was a German Shepherd.
  • Um...YES I DO, rude faces!
  • Listen, I know how puppies are! But I also know that puppies can be trained! I am not under the delusion that I can prevent my puppy from digging or chewing BUT I can teach the puppy to chew on things that I approve of and dig where its appropriate.
  • Any way, I am tired of everyone telling me about their sisters friends cousin that has a German shepherd puppy that has jumped their 6 ft fence and chewed through the dryer vent.
  • Guess what everybody, I have a brother-in-law that has a German Shepherd puppy that HAS NOT jumped their fence, or chewed up their house, OR dug up their yard.
  • SO THERE!
  • Any way, there you have it. Our small little family of two is now going to be a little family of three and I didn't even have to go through labor. Woohoo!

Sunshine on my window makes me happy...like I should be.

This past weekend was just gorgeous! The sun was shining and the temp was in the 70's.
SO WONDERFUL!
Its about time! I have found that the more time I spend in the sun the happier I get.
On Friday morning I went out with my cute SIL and niece to Mimi's cafe for breakfast.  Rylie insisted on wearing her Snow White dress. She is so freaking adorable!

This inspired us to take the kids to the Disney store at the University Mall. I LOVE the Disney Store. It is like the next best thing to Disneyland. They had so many cute things and they seriously had every single Disney princess barbie doll as well as every single prince. SO CUTE! It kind of made me want a little girl of my own to spoil with fun Disney stuff....kind of...
Later that night, Jeff and I went to see Thor. YUMMMMMMM! Ok this movie was AWESOME! Oh, and Thor is HOT! No, really,  even if you aren't into Norse mythology or Marvel comics...you should still go see this because Chris Hemsworth alone is worth the $8 to see the movie...well, actually he is worth the $13 to see it on Imax in 3D. ;-)

Here is a little something to motivate you to go....

On Saturday Jeff and I  got up bright and early to work in the yard. Jeff, mowed the lawn...twice and my parents came over to help us make garden sections in the back yard. ( i.e. killing the grass and putting in borders for flower beds, etc.)  I also planted these Dahlias

and this amazing rose bush.

I have rediscovered my love for roses. I am currently obsessed with the English rose. I must have some English in me because I love my gardening. My mom says that I just got my green thumb from my dad and grandma. I think she is correct. I can't wait to get everything tilled and fertilized so I can plant more shrubs and flowers....especially more roses.

Just call me Miss Party Planner

So, this past week I have been in party planning mode. My party planning was all sparked by my Disneyland trip. I was thinking how fun it would be to throw a Disney princess party for my niece Rylie. Everyone wants a princess party, right? So I suggested it to my SIL and said that we could invite my friends with little girls and Jeff's nieces. FUN! Rylie's birthday is in OCT so of course we would tell them to all come in their royal finery or dressed as their favorite princess. And then we would have royal festivities!!!!
Of course, this party has had to be put on hold for the moment because......Amelia is getting married!
My dear friend Amelia is getting hitched and I am fulfilling some of my bridesmaidenly duties buy throwing a bridal shower with one of the other bridesmaids. Woohoo! We have come up with the idea to have an Afternoon Tea Bridal Shower. That's correct. There is going to be a whole lot of....
